Swampy’s Matchbook Wednesday: Coconut Grove Restaurant, Sanibel Island
John and Bella Kotinos opened the Coconut Grove Restaurant and Lounge in 1957. After closing in 1995, the space has had many occupants. Currently it’s George & Wendy’s Sanibel Seafood Grille.
The Coconut Grove Restaurant & Lounge was VERY VERY good to ME!!!
As a very young man from Maine, I was a waiter, bus boy, cook at So Seas Plantation in the mid 60’s. I enjoyed eating at The Coconut Grove Restaurant. I especially liked the red fish snapper as I knew it was caught locally every day. They cooked it to perfection.
I also remember the roast beef deli sandwiches at the Castaways restaurant.
See above for comment about two nice restaurant in the 60’s
